math LEARNING INSTITUTES
Join teachers and leaders across the country for our virtual math learning institutes.
Grounded in the belief that all students are mathematicians, Lavinia Group’s approach to teaching mathematics uses a student’s own mathematical thinking as the basis for instruction and prepares teachers to teach students to independently solve math problems with confidence and precision.

Math for Meaning™
Story Problems
Attendees will learn the Math for Meaning™ approach to teaching mathematics, which puts meaning front and center by using rigorous daily problem-solving and rich discourse to prepare students to solve math problems independently. We offer two Math for Meaning™ Institutes: one for K-8 teachers and leaders, and a Middle School Institute for teachers and leaders in grades 5-8.
Targeted Small Group Instruction in Math
Our Targeted Small Group Instruction Institute is designed to help teachers close learning gaps that exist due to the pandemic. This institute will teach participants how to plan for and teach powerful, small-group math lessons. Attendees will learn how to effectively coach individual students for high-leverage, transferable learning during small group math lessons.
Achievement Institutes: Math
Now more than ever, it’s essential that we monitor student progress to have a precise understanding of where all students are relative to end-of-year standards. Our Achievement 101 Institute: Mathematics will support teachers and leaders in identifying a clear roadmap for students to excel on any exam, what excellent test preparation instruction looks like, and effective systems for managing test preparation instruction across schools or grade levels by understanding how to craft Strategic Leading Plans.
